There’s a first for everything and this weekend we debuted The Green Room at Silverstone for the popular Formula 1 British Grand Prix!
What a day The Green Room guests had! As guests arrived at the circuit, they entered the venue under Copse Corner and alongside the track to Maggots. The Green Room offered a fantastic view of the track as the drivers approached the Becketts where seating was available on both the raised terrace and on the banks below. Guests collected their hospitality passes and were shown to their seats, they had the chance to have breakfast from the buffet provided before our fabulous host of The Green Room, Mark Durden-Smith, explained the running of the day. First race of the day was FIA Formula 3 where guests spent the morning watching the race from directly outside the suite and from the grand stands.
Our motorsport ambassador Johnny Herbert and Friend of The Green Room Natalie Pinkham arrived for a pre-race Q&A with our guests. Mark probed them for the latest news and gossip from inside the pits as well as sharing stories from previous races. Mark threw the mic to the audience where they had the chance to ask the three-time Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert and Motorsport commentator Natalie Pinkham their questions. Plus, guests even managed to grab a selfie with them both!
After a buzzing Q&A session with Natalie and Johnny, guests took the chance to grab something from the buffet as it was refreshed with the lunch menu offering salmon, chicken and beef dishes. Whilst our guests were enjoying an extensive buffet, the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup began. Each guest had their own personal radio to hear the commentary from wherever they were in the venue as well as large screens located around the track. You couldn’t miss a moment of the action, even if you tried! The drivers parade began which allowed the guests to see their favourite drivers in vintage and popular sports cars as they waved to the crowds, before heading back the pitlane for the starting grid presentation. The Red Arrows then showcased their incredible skills and talents as they performed a beautiful display above the track, including the spectacular and iconic union jack.
Guests took the opportunity to prepare themselves for the race by heading to the Grandstand seating which is only for Club Six hospitality members. From these seats our guests enjoyed the best panoramic views of the track and six of the circuit’s corners – Maggots, Becketts, Chapel, Village, The Loop and Aintree. Also known as the best place to watch the race and now we know why! Plus, so you didn’t miss any of the action they also had a giant screen showing the action on track.
It definitely was an intense start with both Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, battling it out to take first place and lead the race. With Bottas starting on pole position this put him in a good place to gain a lead on the other drivers, but Hamilton soon overtook and pulled away from his team mate after a safety car intervened. With Ferrari and Red Bull wheel to wheel for third place it was eventually won by Charles Leclerc after Sebastian Vettel took out Max Verstappen.
Hospitality guests were on the edges of their seats as they saw Daniel Ricciardo swerve a rabbit on the track between The Loop and Aintree Corners – that’s one lucky rabbit! Even on 30 lap tyres, Hamilton managed to set his pace around the track and secure the fastest lap just before crossing the finish line. Lewis drove fantastically, took advantage of the circumstances and didn’t make any mistakes winning him his record breaking 6th home win – it was a typical Lewis drive!
VIP guests came back to The Green Room for afternoon tea and celebrated Lewis’ sixth home race win with the final hours of the complimentary bar. As the Cricket World Cup Final and Wimbledon Men’s Final were also taking place, this was shown on the screens inside The Green Room so fans could stay updated with the scores.
Although the season isn’t over yet, we are super excited to do it all again in 2020 both in Monaco and back at Silverstone with The Green Room!
