In comparison to many of Britain’s classic horse racing events which were established during the 1700s, the first Punchestown races were claimed to have been held during the early 1800s. For the course of the century, the races held at Punchestown racecourse slowly grew in popularity, with early visits from the Prince of Wales, Albert Edward in 1868 further bolstering crowds from beyond Dublin.

Currently, the racecourse is the home of Irish Jump Racing and boasts a right-handed track with an undulating hurdle along with a steeplechase track. It is also the only location in Ireland with cross country banks course.
